Companionship for the Elderly

To have companionship means you will have someone to spend time with as a friend. Sometimes, having someone to help with simple daily tasks can make your day- we agree with Paula Cole when she said “I think it’s important to find the little things in everyday life that make you happy”. Having companionship can help you with the small daily tasks and inspire you to spark joy with the small things.

One of our companions can pop round as little or as often as you want, helping you from the comfort of your own home where you have your own pets and familiarities. Having companionship can be great for people who don’t necessarily need full-time care, but would benefit from having a friend by their side to give them emotional support and friendship to help them maintain their independence and sociability.

What Does a Day Look Like in a Companionship?

A day with one of our companions is always fun and enjoyable. We make sure we have an understanding of your personality and favourite activities so that the day is catered to your needs and wants. If you have companionship, it will be a natural and caring experience as our carers do not see this day as their job, but their passion- they will enjoy being part of a consociation with you. We match our companions to you so that they are in line with your hobbies and interests so you will have plenty to chat about! Our companions will encourage you to lead a healthy lifestyle, helping you have a better quality of life.

In general, a typical day will look like this:

    • Firstly, you will meet your companion, they will greet you with a smile and will make some conversation so you can get to know each other a little better. They will then prepare breakfast and drink of your choice for you. As you are having breakfast you will have a natter about upcoming events and whatever strikes up a conversation.
    • After you have eaten breakfast, our companion will start tidying and cleaning up, making sure that everything is put back in the right places.
    • After the kitchen is back to normal, the companion will look for other household chores that need taking care of like: Vacuuming, changing bed sheets, gardening, laundry and dusting.
    • When household tasks are completed. Our companion will then ask if there are any other errands to run like going to the bank, sorting out mail or going shopping with you.
    • When all daily tasks are looked at, the rest of your meals for the day will be prepared and you can decide how you want to spend the rest of your day. If you wish to do some exercise, our companion can join you, if you decide to stay in and play some games, that is perfectly fine too!

This is just a typical day with a companion, but there are other options that might suit you better. If you would like to know other options for a typical day with a companion, contact us so you can learn more about us.

    Caring

We are fortunate enough to have incredible caring staff, from our office to our clients’ homes. Our staff are passionate about providing the highest level of companionship care that they possibly can with candour and enthusiasm. Our carers have been known to forge friendships with our clients and always look forward to seeing them on their calls.

    Supported Staff

We are very fortunate to have such wonderful staff and we would not want to sully their motivation to do incredible work. One of the founding pillars that our company is based on is the reimbursement of our staff. Carers are some of the hardest working people in our economy, so we make sure that they are well paid and reimbursed for their mileage and travel time so we are reassured that they don’t have money trouble. This is relevant to our clients because it ensures that their carers will be more driven to provide the desired service. Happy staff make superior companions.

    Organised

We always take measures to ensure that our service is running smoothly and maintains the capability to offer optimum care. This is why we have put certain systems in place to monitor all aspects of our service. For example, we have a state-of-the-art rostering system in place to make sure that our carers are arriving at their calls on time and have adequate time to travel to each of their appointments. They also use this software to record care plans and make progress notes that are available for our clients and their relatives to view at their convenience during our companionship care service.

Further Benefits of Having a Companion

Emotional support: More than 1 million people over the age of 75 say they go over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. Elderly people can get physically lonely for uncontrollable reasons such as friends and family passing away, leaving their workplace or through disability. Regardless of being physically lonely, you can also feel lonely without having any physical reasons why. Being lonely can be detrimental to your health as it can lead to depression which can affect your physical health and wellbeing.

Having one of our companions can help you gain confidence to go out and make friends and spark joy and passion in daily tasks which may have become mundane and boring. We will also encourage you to lead a healthy lifestyle and help you to understand and realise that you are not a burden to us, your friends or your family. If you are lonely, you’re not a burden, you have a burden- which you shouldn’t have to carry on your own.
